We have now settled into our huge apartment at 2 Piazza della Maddalena which is perfectly located in the heart of Old Rome. Our 3rd floor apartment overlooks the beautiful La Maddalena Church from 1735 and numerous restaurants and gelatarias. The back of our apartment block abuts the Piazza della Rotonda, which is home to the Pantheon. Within 5 minutes of our front door, we can be in the Piazza Novena to the left while the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are 10 minutes straight ahead. Our apartment is as big as our house in Newcastle and has huge windows and doors opening onto the streets and square below http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p848598. Over the last few days, we have discovered an excellent small restaurant around the corner serving traditional Roman pasta dishes and have been gorging ourselves on beautiful wood-fire pizza. After dinner, the kids head out on their own to buy gelatos while we watch from the balcony. Late yesterday afternoon, after lunch with a good local wine, we wandered down to the view the Colosseum at dusk. We walked past the Forum before strolling around the Icon draining the batteries in our cameras. We then caught the Metro back to The Spanish Steps and walked home to buy pizza for diner. Today, we will walk over to see the Vatican before a long slow lunch to digest the experience.
