PARIS - Day 1

We arrived in Paris yesterday morning at 7am to beautiful weather. While we waited to get into our apartment at 10am, Ollie and I introduced ourselves to the cycle ways of Paris by way of the Velib bike hire system. An all day ticket costs 1.7 Euro ($2) and it is free for up to half an hour. After 30 minutes, you return your bike and get another one. After dropping our bags off at the apartment, we set out in perfect sunshine and headed to The Marias via Notre Dame and the Ile Ste Louis before lounging in splendour at Place des Vosges in the shadows of Victor Hugo. At 1pm, we found the best baguettes we could find and bought some pate, camembert and other wonderful small goods and went home. Lunch was washed down with a fruity Cote de Rhone before Karin and Stella took a siesta. Ollie and I then headed out again on the Velibs and rode to the Pompidou Centre before coming back via ancient laneways and across the Pont Nuef, which would have to be the most beautiful bridge in the world. As fatigue finally set in, Ollie and I also succumbed to sleep in the early evening. It is now 7am on Tuesday morning as we prepare to set out for another 24 hours. I have no idea where we will go today but expect we will be lead by our appetites.
