It is now our final night in Rome and we are all exhausted. We walked the long way down to the Colosseum this morning in warm sunshine via Capitoline Hill. The Hill’s Piazza and facades were designed by Michelangelo and overlook the surrounding ruins. We then stopped for coffee and pastries before embarking on the Colosseum. For some reason, whilst there, we encountered more American tourist than at any other destination thus far. Afterwards, we walked the short distance back to L’Asino D'Oro for another fabulous meal – and it was even better than yesterday. Today, we started with handmade tortellini in a delicate beef broth before spinach cannelloni with a fresh tomato sauce. Our main was a slither of rare roast beef with spinach topped with extra virgin olive oil. The meal was washed down with a couple of glasses of delicious Italian wine before we left with a bill of 48 euro. Fantastic food and wine, professional service and unbelievable value for money. We will miss the Eternal City.
