'OOOOH VIENNA'
We are now into our third day in Vienna and loving every minute. Prior to arriving, I was concerned it would be a dreary and conservative city, famous only for its cafés, imperial history and Ultravox’s camp anthem. Thankfully, it has proved me very wrong. This is a fantastic city, stylish and cool, with great food and amazing sights around every corner. It is like Berlin, but better dressed. Our apartment is located on the city fringe and has 360 degrees views. It also has a parking space in the basement for our family wagon. As a result, we have been driving everywhere and it has been a revelation. We set out each day with a packed itinerary and have managed to find car parks within metres of each destination. As before, we started with the vintage shops, which are many and varied and spread out around the city’s rime. We then went to Cafe Central for brunch to experience the renowned Viennese café culture. Leon Trotsky used to take coffee there before he started chasing Freda Kahlo around Mexico. It is located in the heart of the city, in an old bank, and has been serving coffee there since 1876. After visiting the Freud Museum, we had lunch in a noodle restaurant in the city before heading to Pratar theme park to chase some adrenalin. It was late and freezing cold and completely empty, perfect. We have planned a day at the Naschmarkt tomorrow, which is the city’s perennial market. It runs every day and has a flea market each Saturday. Perhaps we will find some more treasures to fill our already bulging suitcases.
