BUDAPEST
We are now into our third day in Budapest and love this city. It is much more sophisticated than I had imagined and is more like Paris than any other city I can think of. Some of the Metro stations are so old, they can only take short trains of three carriages. A good tip was the Number 2 tram, which runs along the Danube and past the major sights. We have also eaten at two excellent restaurants (Menza & Ristorante Krizia) and love walking around after lunch with a full stomach and warm glow from the delicious Hungarian wines. Today, we visited the ‘House of Terror’ Museum, which covers the atrocities committed by the fascist and communist regimes on Hungarians over the 20th century. First-hand video recounts spoke in detail of how the executions took place in the basement. A very moving experience.
